Here is a video of how technology could be used in a production of a Curious Incident of the Dog In the Nighttime.
Technology helps us tap into an audience’s emotion. This is especially true in plays that perhaps could be confusing otherwise. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night is a great example of this. This play is about a boy with high-functioning autism, Asperger’s. To better communicate with the audience what is happening in this boys-brain, technology can be used, to make it more relatable and make audience members more emotionally invested.
An example of an un-coming production of this show is directed by Marianna Elliot, premiering in 2014. The main approach they take with this is to show what goes on in Christopher’s mind. They focus on how he is really good at math and thinks in math terms to help him solve real world problems. By taking the approach of entering his mind with him through technology the audience can get a feel for what it might be like with someone who has that disorder.
I feel like technology can really help in a show like this because mental disorders is something people have a hard time understanding. It is something that they cannot visually see, so it is much harder for them to get a feel for. By bringing technology into a production like this, one can tap into his brain and therefor tap into the emotion.
